Are You a Victim of Job Spill? An Unstoppable Social Phenomenom That Can Ruin A Vacation

Are you one of those?  You know, the ones that can never disconnect from their cell phones, blackberries, laptops, or iPad?  The operative word is NEVER.  The job spill dilemna is that if your’e always connected when you’re on vacation and relaxing on a beach somewhere, you can never disengage.  Isn’t the point of a vacation to be on a healthy self-imposed disconnect?  Try to read a great novel and resist the temptation to hook up with your work-related life.  Don’t be a victim just because the hot spots are there, and then you’ll feel compelled to connect.  It’s difficult to ignore the lure of the Internet, but it will still be there when you get home and so will Face Book, Twitter, your Inbox, etc.  How we manage our time correlates to how we balance our lives.  This is the ultimate exercise in time-management. Focus on reduces the brain clutter, re-direct the barrage of thoughts spiraling through your brain. Allow yourself to slow down, drift off, and feel the calm.

It’s hard to remember when weren’t connected, but I can remember a time when leaving the office really meant leaving the work behind.  Ahhh….vacation.   Take it and run.  Let go. Relax. Escape.  Disconnect.

Is Your Refridgerator Cluttered?

Does your fridge look like this? Do you need to take out at least 6 items to get to your favorite drink or snack?

And when it’s time to put the stuff back, it never fits quite the same, right?  It’s like a food jigsaw puzzle…lol

So if you are not an expert juggler, it’s time to organize that cluttered fridge and maximize its space.

This is my favorite new product.; Interdesign Fridge Binz. You can find them at Bed, Bath, and Beyond.  No more hunting for the pickles, deli meat, or yesterday’s left-overs!

Interdesign Fridge Binz Stackable Clear Plastic Bins

These clear bins pictured above are a great way to manage a variety of different food groups, while keeping your refrigerator looking organized and appealing. They are available in different sizes;  single, double, beverage, and egg compatible.  This not only eliminates the stacking of incongruous shapes and spillage, it aids in the challenge of returning an item back to a designated space.  Even food should have a special home! All cheeses can be contained and spreads can be more easily found.  It’s ideal for corralling cut-up fruits, flavored yogurts, and kid’s snacks.

The best part is that the bins are portable and stackable; just slide them out with the handle and find what you need easily.  Everybody in the family will know where to look to find their favorite foods!  I even suggest to store “like with like” and use them how you eat; e.g. put pita bread, hummus spreads, olives, etc. all in the same appetizer bin.

The great benefit of these bins is that they are so easy to clean and prevent the fridge shelves from getting sticky and gummy.  You can also still opt to store your condiments on the fridge door, but often the jumbo sizes don’t fit.  In my house, I have such a huge assortment of mustard, there’s little room left for anything else. I need an exclusive bin just for mustard! 🙂

Most likely your refrigerator shelves are adjustable, so they might have to be altered to accommodate taller items.  Use the double bins to group larger categories. Store all veggies together, lettuce, with all other accompaniments of a salad . Makes it so convenient to chop a salad quickly and efficiently.

You might even consider labeling the containers for the family. Especially great idea for left-overs since you want them to be found, not lost.

Below is another version of the same product concept.  My client uses these to organize her daily dinner ingredients. I prefer the clear bins better because you can see what you have more readily, but you get the idea.

The days of trying to shove food back into the fridge haphazardly are gone!  When you’re starving…you want what you want, when you want it, and you certainly don’t want to start a scavenger hunt searching for it.

Eating just got more fun!  Bon appetit!

The Secret to the Perfectly Organized Pack That You Will Never Forget!

Do you ever get completely overwhelmed prior to any pack, whether business or pleasure? Do you usually wonder if you’ve  forgotten something?  Of course, having an actual checklist would be the ideal solution but most people don’t take the time to create one, and it can be easily misplaced. So why not use something you can never lose?   Your own body. Think about your anatomy as the guide to your organization.  The simplest way to pack is literally organize from HEAD TO TOE.  Break down your body into zones.  Start with your head and think about all the things you would need that encompasses your head, and make associations that relate to that particular part of your body. The head, at large, would remind you about the necessary requirements for a happy head.  Next  move down to the eyes to the tips of your toes.   You get the idea.  Here’s my HTT method;

Head:  Headache remedies, shampoo and conditioner,  hair brushes, combs,  hair accessories; any head covering (shower cap, baseball cap, sun hat, skull cap, etc.)

Eyes: Eye drops, contact lenses, reading glasses, sunglasses, eye-mask for sleep

Nose:  Nasal spray, tissues, cold medications, nose hair clippers.

Ears: Earrings, ear drops, head sets, ear buds, ALL technology (camera, Ipad, Kindle, and all chargers)

Mouth: Lip balm or lipstick, toothbrush, toothpaste, mouthwash or any oral hygeine, vitamins and oral medications, gum, candy or favorite snack

Neck:  Scarf, necklace, tie, perfume or cologne

Face/Body: Face wash, moisturizer, body creams, deodorant, suntan lotion, razor,(makeup for ladies)  ALL personal hygiene

Shoulders:  Handbag (for ladies),  carry-on, shawl, jackets and coats

Wrists/hand:  Watches, bracelets, rings, gloves

Torso/legs:  All clothing, (depending on weather, shorts, bathing suits) underwear, sleepwear

Feet:  Socks, stockings, shoes, sneakers, sandals

Waist:  Belt

Personalize this body checklist according to your own individual needs, or medical concerns.

When you reach your destination, there is a possibility that you might have forgotten something, but one thing for sure, guaranteed, you won’t be naked! As long as you don’t forget to bring the $$$, license,  (possibly your passport), you’re all good to go.

Are Your Left-overs in the Right Containers?

Too many sizes, shapes and lids, oh my!  Whether you have toppling towers of stacked Tupperware or even a neater more organized assortment, I bet you are still often searching for the matching lid.

It’s often so frustrating when transferring your yummy left-overs into their proper containers. Ever time I go through the process, I realize that I never seem to have the appropriate size and so I am compelled to buy more. Uh-oh, inviting new tupperware to the already overabundant inventory is probably not a good idea. Not surprisingly, it’s the cabinet that always seems to be multiplying with plastic clutter.   For me, the clean up and transfer is always hit or miss….it feels like the ultimate space-planning challenge.

I seem to be pretty good at eye-balling individual pieces of chicken or meatballs, but when it comes to the side dishes like rice, mashed potatoes, and especially salad, I  am doomed to fail.  Here’s the routine…I commit to a storage container and invariably select one that is slightly too small for the contents.  I’m left with three choices;  toss the excess in the garbage, take out a second container to store what remains, or start again with a bigger container altogether. Too guilty to be wasteful, I generally go with the latter and so then I am left with a dirty reject that needs to be cleaned. Nothing worse than having to clean a dirty container that was never really utilized.

So here’s the great news! I  found the ultimate solution to optimize your food storage.  No more decisions, no more mistakes.   Check out this Tupperware Carousel, a flexible interchangeable mix and match storage system.  the bottoms can be lids and the lids can be bottoms, so you always have the room you need! Every piece fits into each other and you’ll never lose a lid again! A foolproof way to organize your containers and store your leftovers.

Are your LEFT-overs in the RIGHT containers?  Wow Containers definitely WOW-ed me!  Yet another genius idea that I should have thought of designing myself.

A Simple Plan for a Great Summer: The Official Countdown

Is summer your favorite time of year?  It is definitely mine, and I’m sure you must be thinking it’s already flying by.  Memorial day has passed and we know we only have until Labor Day to satisfy our summer bucket list.  How are we going to use our time?  Are we going to merely frolic in the lazy days of summer or are we going to take advantage of the warm weather and be more productive with our outdoor projects? For me, summer energies me…the days are longer, the sun is brighter, and I want to get out and do something.

I read a life changing book about how people manage their time (168 hours: You Have More Time Than You Think) and it was mind boggling to realize how many people do not utilize the extra hours of their days in a week.   Yes, everybody has extra hours of down time when they are not sleeping or not working.  Nobody works 24/7, it would be physically impossible.  Many of us are not aware of  this and so valuble hours can easily slip by.  The book changed how I look at time forever.   Thank you Laura, my time-management guru.

Here’s how she can change your life too.  Back to our summer plans.   She’s already crunched the numbers.  From Memorial Day to Labor Day there are 14 weeks.  Do the simple math; multiply 168 hours and you get 2352 hours.  Now that’s some big chunk of change, ya think?  If you are lucky and get  8 hours a night sleep, then deduct another 784 hours.  And if you work 12 of those 14 weeks, subtract roughly about 480 hours, which leaves you well over 1000 glorious extra hours of  leisure time!!  OMG, you’ve hit the lottery. This is precious time, do not waste it!

Organize it, make smart choices,  manage your time because you own it , it’s yours.  Plan your bucket list and aspire to satisfy it.   Spend your hours doing anything you enjoy doing.  Make more time for your family and friends. Ride a bike, take a hike, read the book you’ve never have the time to, create a new hobby, rise early before the dawn, bask in the sunshine of a summer day, and catch the beauty of a brilliant sunset.

Plant, grow a garden, or paint a room.  Or maybe be more ambitious and clean out the garage, basement or attic?  And yes, maybe even take a delicious nap on a hammock.  Enjoy the priceless summer hours, you cannot take them back in winter.  Make them count  now and savor them forever.

This is YOUR  time, YOUR summer.  Ask yourself this…what will you be doing with all those hours?
